{"id":937,"date":"2018-03-29T14:54:51","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T18:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shadow.sombragris.org\/?p=937"},"modified":"2018-03-29T14:54:51","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T18:54:51","slug":"switching-to-firefox-quantum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shadow.sombragris.org\/?p=937","title":{"rendered":"Switching to Firefox Quantum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The folks at Mozilla recently released Firefox 57, which is in fact a totally new engine and interface, known as <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2017\/11\/14\/introducing-firefox-quantum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Firefox Quantum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When Slackware-current pushed the update, I upgraded and was pleasantly surprised. It felt a lot faster and lighter than Chrome \/ Chromium, and so I decided to switch to it as my main browser.<\/p>\n<p>After some months, I&#8217;m now running Firefox 59.0.2 and I could say that so far it&#8217;s been a great ride. Switching from Chrome\/Chromium wasn&#8217;t easy since I had invested a lot of time in getting the right plugins and addons for my needs. Worse, starting with Quantum, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2015\/08\/21\/the-future-of-developing-firefox-add-ons\/\">Firefox phased out their previous XUL-based addon model<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2016\/11\/23\/add-ons-in-2017\/\">switched to another known as WebExtensions<\/a>, which was received with a lot of grumbling, to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>However, I easily found substitute plugins and addons for Firefox and right now I could say that I&#8217;m a happy camper. Firefox now rides my Web surfing in a smooth, quick way.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s great to see Firefox back to its former glory. Or, at least part of it.
