Back in the day, when it was time to print out the invitations for our wedding ceremony, G. and I decided that we would not put a Bible verse on it. The verses we considered relevant were too trite and commonplace, and to omit them wasn’t necessarily the end of the world. Instead, we put a beautiful poem by the Nobel Prize winner, the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dame la mano…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dame la mano y danzaremos,
\ndame la mano y me amar\u00c3\u00a1s.
\nComo una sola flor seremos,
\ncomo una flor, y nada m\u00c3\u00a1s…<\/p>\n

El mismo verso cantaremos,
\nal mismo paso bailar\u00c3\u00a1s.
\nComo una espiga ondularemos,
\ncomo una espiga, y nada m\u00c3\u00a1s.<\/p>\n

Te llamas Rosa y yo Esperanza,

Your name’s Rose, and mine’s Hope

\nbecause we’ll be a dance
